Who We Are
History

Founded in 1963 as Rayko Construction, Brookstone, as we know it today, was formed primarily to construct retail service stations for the large oil companies. John Carson joined the company in 1972 as a project manager. As a result of the oil embargo in 1973, the company was forced to diversify its markets and soon thereafter, was awarded its first faith-based project for Kingwood United Methodist Church. Along with this new faith-based market, additional diversity developed in the healthcare, community, education, industrial, and other commercial sectors. In the healthcare market, the first project was a renovation at the Texas Medical Center; and the first public K-12 education projects were constructed for Tomball ISD. The company’s first community/non-profit project was constructed for Houston Child Guidance Center which later became DePelchin Children’s Center. Over the past couple of decades, Brookstone has also developed a strong presence in the industrial and aviation sectors serving clients like United Airlines, Celanese Chemical, and many other commercial stakeholders.
Steve Dishman joined the company in 1977 as a project manager. In 1978, John Carson purchased the company and became president while Steve Dishman, Gale Gaither, and Grace Applewhite became shareholders. The group changed the company’s name to Brookstone Construction in 1979. During the 1980’s, Brookstone benefited from the strength of its growing market diversity to weather the economic booms and busts. Brookstone moved its headquarters to 3715 Dacoma Street in 1991 where it remains to this day. In 1992, John Carson became chairman and chief executive officer; and Steve Dishman became president and chief operating officer. Andy Richardson joined Brookstone in 1994 as senior estimator. In 1998, 1999, and 2007, Samantha Hutchison joined as staff accountant, Jeremy Stovall as assistant project manager, and Jeramy Moffitt as project estimator, respectively.
Throughout its history, Brookstone has developed into one of the premier commercial construction companies in southeast Texas with diverse markets in the community/religious, education, healthcare, municipal and aviation/industrial sectors. In 2021, Jeremy Stovall became president; and Steve Dishman transitioned to chairman. Samantha Hutchison is chief financial officer and Jeramy Moffitt is vice president and chief estimator. Sadly, in March 2022, Steve passed away unexpectedly in Tasmania, Australia, while riding in a vintage British motorcycle rally.
Brookstone’s history is rich with an incredible legacy of leadership, valued clients, and diverse markets. Today, Brookstone’s team of industry-leading professionals provides exceptional service to a diverse group of clients on complicated construction projects. The measure of Brookstone’s service is the fact that many clients invite them back repeatedly. Upon this history and with its team, Brookstone is well-positioned to continue forward serving its core markets and creating new chapters of its story by building "The Brookstone Way".
