Originally built for Continental, this hangar on the George Bush Intercontinental Airport campus continues to service airplanes as large as Boeing 787s for United. The metal-clad building has translucent walls and roof panels that expand the volume of interior daylight and automated roof and wall louvers that optimize ventilation during changing weather conditions.

When construction was 50 percent complete, the owner sought to capitalize on recent advancements and requested a change to a more environmentally friendly fire protection system: a high-expansion aqueous film forming foam (AFFF) system. Brookstone revamped the water supply, structural and roofing systems to accommodate the AFFF system, which includes two 350,000-gallon water tanks, 12 low-expansion foam generators and a 348,000-gallon catch basin for the foam.
