Steps for Students is an annual event where all school and parish communities in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston come together to support Catholic education and provide much needed resources for Catholic schools. Even though the weather was questionable until the very last minute, almost four thousand people were on hand to raise money for a worthy cause.
Annunciation Catholic Church selected Brookstone for a unique and high-profile project in downtown Houston. Founded in 1869, Annunciation is one of the oldest parishes in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston and is listed as a Texas Historic Landmark. The campus is located at the corner of Crawford Street and Texas Avenue across from Minute Maid Park.
The project includes construction of a new 2-story rectory and a restroom/bridesroom addition. In addition, Brookstone will construct a new structural foundation for and renovate the historic Foley House that has been relocated to the Annunciation campus from its previous location a couple of blocks away. The Foley House was built in 1904 and was the residence of William L. Foley whose nephews founded the Foley Brothers Dry Goods Store which eventually became the Foley’s department store chain.

With only two other contractors nationwide in the category of 100,001 – 300,000 man-hours, the finalists have been invited to the AGC of America Annual Convention in March in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Brookstone will present and be interviewed by industry safety professionals during the evaluation process for the award. The comprehensive selection process looks for evidence of executive management commitment, active employee participation, safety training, work site hazard identification and control and safety program innovation. Steve Dishman, President of Brookstone commented, “Just being invited as one of three in our category in the nation to present is a huge honor and testimony to the safety culture and results all of us have achieved.
